Finding the Missing Pieces: Middle Grades Fractions
Are your students missing key pieces of fractional reasoning? Content shifts in the Common Core may leave many students with gaps in their conceptual understanding of fractions. This session will focus on strategies and resources to embed fractional reasoning while maintaining the rigor and relevance required in your grade's Common Core Standards.

Using the Learning Progressions for Number and Operations-Fractions from grades 3-5, we will identify key ideas that are necessary for conceptual understanding of fractions, share formative assessment strategies to determine students' gaps and misconceptions, and share activities that will connect deep conceptual understanding of fractional reasoning to middle grades standards.

Join me at NCTM 2014 in New Orleans as we explore these ideas together! I will be presenting on Friday, April 10, at 2:00 pm in Convention Center 225/226/227. This session will be part of the Learn-Reflect Strand.
